What does Fitz do while Kettle and Verity sleep and what does Verity decide?

Verity and Kettle sleep, and Fitz moves towards the dragon. Verity meets him there, and decides he must sacrifice Fitz as well as himself in order to save the Six Duchies and bring the dragon to life.
