What is the theme in Ask the Dust by John Fante?

One major theme in the novel is that of insanity, more accurately obsession. Arturo is obsessed with his career, Camilla is obsessed with Sammy, Vera is obsessed with Arturo, Hellfrick is obsessed with meat, and Mrs. Hargraves is obsessed with her deceased husband. That's a lot of obsession.
