What Partition does Nadira describe in Section 3: Chapter 3? What was its impact on the Bengali people?

The British divided Bengal in half, and this was called Partition. Half belonged to India and held mostly Hindus while the half containing mostly Muslims was called Pakistan. During Partition, there were many riots between the Hindus and the Muslims, and Nadira's grandmother told many horror stories about that time.
