Artemis is a child prodigy. He is a criminal mastermind. We are shown how very smart he is as he figures out who Nguyen is. He is determined, as he's been researching his quest for months, and as rich as he is, he has no hesitation at paying Nguyen a large sum of money. He is also manipulative as he tricks the sprite into letting them have her book for thirty minutes. These characteristics depict Artemis, as he will be throughout the novel: very smart, arrogant, and doing whatever it takes to get what he wants.
