Readers need not be familiar with Piercy's devotion to feminist causes to recognize "Apple sauce for Eve" as a feminist poem. From the mocking opening lines to the jubilant finish, this work speaks to the strength, willingness, intelligence, and ultimate victory of women in a world hostile to their goals. As such, it is not particularly rare or shocking, since the women's movement established itself as a vibrant social and political force more than three decades ago and has produced countless feminist writers since.
