Who is Ted from Anywhere but Here and what is their importance?

Ted is Adele's second husband. He is an ice skating pro. The couple marries when Ann is nine-years-old, and although, Ted tries to be a good stepfather..... he is as irresponsible with money as his wife. Adele eventually leaves Ted, stealing his credit card in order to finance her trip to California.
