Who is Anne Shirley?

Anne Shirley is the sixteen-year-old protagonist of 'Anne of Avonlea', the second in an eight-book series written by L.M. Montgomery. Anne's red hair has deepened to auburn, her freckles have mostly faded; she is a tall and willowy woman physically, but she is still a girl at heart. Anne has grown up enough to take on teaching at the Avonlea school and helping to raise orphaned twins Davy and Dora Keith. While responsibility has made Anne slightly more practical, she is still a starry-eyed dreamer, prone to romantic fantasies and lofty ideals. Anne feels a fierce communion with the natural world, imbuing the features of the landscape with their own set of feelings.
