Who is Kari Nelson from Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons and what is their importance?

Kari is a widow, as well as the oldest of the Angry Housewives. She desperately wants to have children, but thinks she never will after her husband dies. When Kari gets a call from her niece, however, telling her a child is available, she rushes out to San Francisco only to learn the child is her niece's own daughter. Hesitant, she knows it is meant to be. Kari takes the baby home to raise, but lives in fear her niece will change her mind or tell the family about the lie she asked Kari to live. Kari has difficulty at first with the reaction of strangers to her daughter's biracial appearance, but eventually learns how to deal with this unfortunate interference in her happiness.
