Who is Cardinal Ebner in Angels & Demons by Dan Brown?

Cardinal Ebner was one of the four top candidates to be elected Pope. He was also the first cardinal targeted and killed by the Hassassin. Ebner was discovered buried in Chigi Chapel's devil hole. He was buried standing up and also alive.
