Who is Lorens Loewenhielm from Anecdotes of Destiny ; and, Ehrengard and what is their importance?

Lorens Loewenhielm appears in the story, Babette's Feast. He is a young officer, who falls in love with Martine. Lorens, however, soon realizes he must abandon true love and marry a woman who is considered suitable for him. He comes back to dine at Babette's feast, many years later as a General.
