Who is Potgieter from And They Didn't Die?

Mr. Potgieter is Zenzile's employer. She works in his home. He is white and incharge of the road crew, which is where he meets Zenzile. Over the course of the novel, Potgieter and his wife argue over Zenzile's presence in their home, as his feelings for Zenzile are apparent to all. After one long and vicious fight with his wife, Potgieter goes to Zenzile's room and rapes her, which results in a pregnancy, and the loss of Zenzile's older children. They are taken away from her.
