What indications are there that there is history of manic depression in Jamison's family?

The disease is believed to be hereditary and there are indications of manic depression in her father's moods. He is at times highly entertaining and at other times simply weird. Sometimes he sinks into sullen, uncommunicative moods that lead to bouts of anger and screaming.
