Her mind gets too crowded with ideas and feelings come too fast, producing confusion and memory loss. Then, like an alcoholic, she can't quite remember what happened, with whom, and to what effect. Her friendships and marriage are threatened or gone, and she wonders which set of feelings--manic or depressive--is real.
