This book is written entirely in the first person and from Tommy Franks' point of view. There is no attempt at objectivity. Franks is a very opinionated person, with clear likes and dislikes. He also pulls the reader into the highest levels of power, not only in the United States, but also in the Arab countries. Franks paints portraits of generals, presidents, Arab leaders, and the many others that he encounters in his fascinating career. However, there are many endearing descriptions of the average American soldier at war, whether it's fighting for his life in a rice paddy in Vietnam or celebrating Christmas on a Navy ship in the Middle East.
