Who is Daniel from Among Others and what is their importance?

Daniel is Morwenna's biological father. Morwenna meets Daniel for the first time early in the novel. He is a caretaker for his family's mansion, which has long been under the magical control of his witch sisters. Daniel and Morwenna strike up a fast friendship because they both love science fiction.
