Exposition:

In "The Scarlet Ibis," the narrator recounts events that occured in the past. When the narrator is six, his little brother is born. He is born in a caul, meaning a membrane surrounded his head, so everyone expects him to die.

rising action:

rising action is the sighting of the scarlet ibis. These birds are not typically found in the United States. Narrator pushes his brother physically.

Climax:

Narrator pushes his brother past his limits.

Falling action:

Doodle dies

Resolution:

The storm that blew the ibis into their yard was too much for the bird to withstand. The blood that covers Doodle at the end of the story connects him directly to the scarlet ibis--they are both red.
