Who is Seymour from American Pastoral and what is their importance?

Seymour Levov or "Swede Levov' is famous for of his fair complexion and blond hair. He is the principal character in the novel. During his years at Weequahic High School, the handsome Jewish Swede was a star performer in baseball, basketball, and football. Everyone in the Jewish community idolized him.
