The structure of the novel is set up chronologically as it follows Lara Jean through the last few months of her senior year, up until the day before she leaves for college. The first eight chapters revolve around Lara Jean worrying whether or not she is going to get into UVA. To hide her anxiety, she embarks upon a journey to make the perfect chocolate chip cookie. She hopes and dreams so much about getting into UVA and having a perfect college experience that the reader knows just how much she wants to get accepted.
