Luis notes that his family crossed the Rio Grande, and that it's a symbol of the many borders and barriers in their paths. He recalls his mother taking the children to Will Rogers Park and a white lady chasing them away, screaming that it isn't their country. He says that would echo in his mind for the rest of his life.
