What does James use to attempt curing Rose, Mr. Bailes' cow, but who finally cures her and how?

James feeds the cow different lavage mixtures with no effect, but Jim Oakley , postman, tells Mr. Bailes to gallop Rose around the field and that fixes her up and gets her insides working again.
