Why does Catherine eventually conclude that the house may be haunted?

Catherine concludes that the house might be haunted because strange things happen - the radio channel changes on its own, and doors open and close without explanation. Catherine also thinks she sees another woman's face or figure sometimes, and she feels she can hear Ella Cole's thoughts, especially after finding Ella's rings and putting them on.
