The novel is divided into 32 chapters and ends with an Epilogue. Half the chapters are titled “Jamison” and half are titled “Andrew.” The chapter titles alternate between the two names. There are no other identifiers such as chapter numbers. Each chapter title page includes an image that resembles a very basic image of ground with a few tufts of grass. It could be a sand dune, referring to the fact that Andrew and Jamie wind up in Florida. The first few words of every chapter appear in capital letters in a bold font. The main story line flows in chronological order. There are some pieces of information that provide the frame story, and these are presented usually as a part of Andrew's or Jamie's memory.
