Importance of Jerome Francoeur

Jerome is the bureaucrat who approves Goettreider’s request for funding for his engine. He sets up the demonstration in which the engine is first turned on. In the first reality, he too dies from radiation poisoning, and in the second, he looses an arm protecting Ursula but lives to an old age. He grows suspicious of his wife’s relationship with Goettreider at the demonstration, and soon after they openly discuss the affair. Jerome believes this is the end of his wife’s infidelity, and never knows that she continues the affair for decades.
