What are Canessa and Parrado trying to fix?

Canessa and Parrado remained at the Fairchild and attempted to make the cockpit radio functional. It was Canessa's opinion that they shouldn't risk their lives hiking again unless all of their other options had been exhausted. The radio had over sixty broken wires exiting from its back and it became Roy Harley's job to reassemble all of them.
