Who is Wujciu from Alicia and what is their importance?

Wujciu (meaning uncle) was an old hermit who lived outside of the village. He was an epileptic, and as such was ostracized by the villagers, who believed him possessed. When Alicia and her mother have nowhere to live, she convinces her adopted uncle to take them in.
