The hurricane is a symbol of change. Alexander Hamilton writes a letter to his father about a massive hurricane that hit St. Croix. The letter is published, and when wealthy New Yorkers read it they start a collection to bring Alex to King’s College. Alex tells himself, before he first goes to the Schuyler’s mansion to deliver the court martial, “Maybe this will be another hurricane” (26), meaning that maybe something that seems purely horrific will turn out to be a catalyst for the future, and all that the future holds.
