What does James Cobb do when ordered to go after a bogy?

Peewee pushes throttle to ninety-nine percent power and chases the bogy. He gets close to the port of Latakia within Syrian territorial waters where Peewee should stop the chase to avoid violating borders. Instead he turns inside the bogy to shorten the range and fires a Sidewinder. The rocket tracks the bogy but then darts down toward Latakia seeming to chase a train. An orange flash and ball of brown smoke rushes up as Peewee climbs away. In fifteen minutes he is on the Saratoga, explaining his actions.
