Why does Miss Tate want Sunny to strike the hands of her classmates?

Miss Tate hands out the essay she has students write about a relative. Sunny's essay received the highest mark. Her classmates' essays only received threes and fours out of ten points. Miss Tate wants Sunny to strike the hands of her classmates to try to beat some sense into them.
