The language in Agent Running in the Field often mimics the language in Service documents. Le Carré uses a lot of spy terminology, and the few colloquial words in the text often come from military or service origins. Le Carré also uses many aliases and codenames to represent the characters, as their codename changes across operations as well as across relationships.
