The Bonn Agreement established the interim government of Afghanistan following the US invasion of Afghanistan in October of 2001. Formally referred to as the Agreement on Provisional Arrangements in Afghanistan Pending the Re-Establishment of Permanent Government Institutions, this diplomatic arrangement was agreed upon within the framework of the early series of agreements passed on December 5th of 2001, during a conference bringing together a group of 25 pre-selected Afghan dignitaries. Agreed upon in Bonn was a pathway to establish a post-Taliban government. In the book, the Bonn Agreement is repeatedly references as the legal seed of US state-building project in Afghanistan.
