Selina Dawes from Affinity is a trance medium who comes to London to learn the profession from her aunt. She is so good at it that she begins having patrons. One patron convinces her to move in with her and it is a good living until Selina decides that she wants to see more clients. Her benefactor agrees and brings her wealthy friends in to see Selina. Selina has private sessions with the wealthy women. Mrs. Brink walks in on one of these private sessions and the shock of what she sees going on causes her to have a heart attack. Selina is convicted of killing Mrs. Brink. When she meets Margaret she knows that she will be able to manipulate her as she had Mrs. Brink. She takes the tickets and money that Margaret had for their escape, and instead runs away with a maid named Ruth.
