How does the author use foreshadowing in Absolutely Maybe?

In Chapter 37, Maybe thinks that her father was possibly in show business, and she decides to place an ad in the papers that show business people read in order to find him. This foreshadows Maybe's disappointment when Gunnar doesn't respond to any of the ads. If he does respond, it is likely that he isn't even her biological father.
