Febos' central tonal quality is what might be described as actively contemplative. Perhaps investigative, or interrogative, might be better terms, in that the author is looking into herself, her memories, her behaviors, and her circumstances for answers and for insights. But while the terms investigative or interrogative carry with them a sense of objectivity or journalistic factuality, the author’s writing has a potent emotional quality to it, often visceral and edgy just as often as it is analytical and occasionally dispassionate.
