The novel is written in third person from limited perspectives of several characters. The majority of the novel is divided between the perspectives of Pong and Nok. Typically, an entire chapter will be devoted to one or the other of these characters. There are a few exceptions, such as a scene from the perspective of a border agent who talks about the Governor's plan to arrest all the demonstrators. Nok is present for that scene, but the reader does not know what she is thinking until the next chapter, when she is rushing toward Giant's Bridge in the hope of saving everyone from being arrested.
