Who is Roger Button in the story, A Village After Dark?

Roger Button is Fletcher's former classmates. When the men were young students, they were the only two English boys in their Canadian school. Roger therefore clung to Fletcher, admiring and looking up to him. Fletcher treated Roger with nothing but unkindness and cruelty. In the narrative present, Fletcher encounters Roger on the village streets. Roger reminds Fletcher of how wicked he was to him as a child, insisting that Fletcher no longer holds power over him. To prove himself more capable and important than Fletcher, Roger dupes him.
