The red Saab is a symbol of pride. Jake bought this red Saab when he first graduated from law school because he wanted to show off that he had accomplished his dream. At that time, he believed the car made a statement. After his experience with the Hailey case, and presently with Drew’s case, Jake realizes that this car makes him a target.
