Why is attaining the recipe and making the "famous" peanut butter so important to Mason in the novel, A Tangle of Knots?

Besides the wealth, one of the reasons that Mason wants to get the slip back is because his father always thought of him as a failure. Mason believes that if he can get the slip and make the famous peanut butter, he’ll be able to show his father that he was wrong about him.
