The author’s tone and style differs between characters. Nao writes in short and concise sentences with simple thoughts. Ruth’s language is powerful and intense to show her anxiety over Nao’s welfare and her struggle with time. Haruki’s language is complex and simple. The intensity of their language shows their passion and the intensity of their lives. The reader is pulled into all of their lives and becomes part of the story.
