Brienne Tarth from A Storm of Swords is a female knight, formerly serving for Renly, but now serving Lady Catelyn Stark. She agrees to escort Jaime to Kings Landing where she will be able to rescue Sansa Stark and Arya. While enroute, they are attacked and taken to Roose Bolton, but not before Vargo Hoat chops off Jaime's hand. Bolton releases Jaime, tends his wounds, and sends him on his way to Kings Landing. However, Jaime has come to be friends with Brienne and he goes back to save her. When he arrives, she's been thrown into a pit to fight a bear since she bit off Vargo's ear when he tried to rape her. They manage to escape. Jaime gives her his sword, Oathkeeper and charges her with her original task: find Sansa and Arya.
