Who is Hugh?

Hugh is a detective and hostage negotiator. He is a single father to his daughter Wren. The story takes place on his 40th birthday. Hugh is an exceptionally level-headed man, which is what makes him good at his job. However, his lack of emotion is what caused his marriage to break up. After the divorce, his wife moved to Paris, leaving him to raise Wren on his own. He has never regretted that, as Wren is the single most important thing in his life. The two are extremely close. Although Wren is a teenager, Hugh still sees her as a little girl and believes he knows everything about her.
