Why does Laurent think he and Rosalie cannot be matched?

Rosalie and Lucien go to visit the Tourniers. Laurent takes Rosalie to the gardens and gives her a tour. While they are alone, he speaks his mind and tells her that they cannot be matched because they would produce a child who is too dark-skinned. He needs to marry a white woman.
