After picking up Pearce at the port, Byron and Pearce stop at a bar. A drunken American sailor accosts them. Byron tries to buy him a drink, but the man says he will not drink with the likes of them. The man rears back to strike Byron. Byron ducks and the seaman falls over the table. Pearce pays the waiter and the two men leave.
