How did Thisbe learn not to leave Madame's side for any reason?

Thisbe learned early that she was not to leave Madame's side for any reason. Unlike the field hands, she does not get Sundays off. If she is not in the room when Sylvie wants to use the chamber pot, needs water, or wants to be fanned, Thisbe would be lashed twice. So she made sure she was always at Madame's side.
