For the most part, the narrator tells the story using language that is swift and educated. This is done for primarily two reasons. The first is that the swift, simple language, being straightforward rather than poetic, dense, or dry, allows he reader to move quickly through the plot, rather than being tied down in the language itself. Yet, at the same time, an educated vocabulary is also used, allowing believably into the characterization of Stephanie, Sean, and Emily as intelligent people.
