How do Bucky Norman and Kirk Patterson meet each other?

Bucky Norman tells Tully while they are sipping rum in a tree house that he met Kirk Patterson in New Orleans during a jazz festival. Bucky was traveling with his girlfriend, but ended up in a bar alone when she went to hear some music. Joni Mitchell gives an impromptu performance at the bar where Bucky happens to be sitting next to Kirk Patterson. After singing, Joni Mitchell introduces the two men to each other and they strike up a conversation.
