Who is Mr. Pemberton?

Mr. Pemberton is one of the wealthy men who captures Kitty's attention as a possible suitor. Kitty does not find him attractive and has to fight down hysterics when he holds her hand. Despite that, Kitty is prepared to accept his proposal in order to save her family from financial ruin. Mr. Pemberton is overly confident and loud. He talks about things even when he has no valid information. He dislikes James, especially when James appears superior. Mr. Pemberton is obviously interested in Kitty from early in their relationship, but he does not propose until his mother gives her approval.
