Lady Radcliffe is a widow who is a formidable part of the London elite's social scene. She has three children – James, Archie, and Amelia. She is protective as a mother but is also often preoccupied with her social engagements and her imaginary illnesses. She insists on meeting Kitty and Cecily after learning they are spending a lot of time with Archie and Amelia. Lady Radcliffe immediately knows that their clothes are not from the city's top tailors, meaning they did not spend as much money as others. However, she accepts Kitty as soon as Kitty validates one of her imaginary illnesses. When she learns that Kitty saved Archie from a terrible situation, she pledges to do anything for her, clearing the way to ensure she will accept Kitty as James's wife. She seems simpering and foolish but is actually strong and determined.
