How does the author use foreshadowing in A Knight of the Word?

Brooks uses foreshadowing to create a sense of impending doom. One of the characters states that terrible things always happen when you are a Knight of the Word, and that a Knight of the Word is often drawn to terrible things. This foreshadowing bad things to come.
