A Gift From Bob is written from the author James Bowen’s first person point of view. Because A Gift From Bob is another sequel to Bowen’s original memoir of his life with Bob, A Street Cat Named Bob, his first person perspective is organic to the text’s genre. Indeed, Bowen approaches his memoir as if depicting a traditional narrative account on the page. His first person point of view grants the reader a navigational tool upon which to rely as she orients to the parameters and stakes of Bowen and Bob’s story.
