Gilly, Crastor's daughter from beyond the wall, (Feast for Crows) is crying when she comes from Jon's office because Jon has asked her to make a great sacrifice. No one but she and Jon know the truth. Her son is to be kept at Castle Black and passed off as Mance Rayder's son, while the true son is sent with Gilly and Sam to Old Towne to be raised presumably as Sam's bastard son. Jon does not want Melisandre to sacrifice the baby due to its royal blood.
